Does a vacation rental qualify as a REIT?

No, a vacation rental does not qualify as a REIT. Long-term rental real estate is ‘passive’ but vacation rentals are ‘active’ income, and therefore not REIT eligible.

Self Directed IRAs can invest in Vacation Rentals and it will not trigger UBTI/UDFI.

Please see your tax advisor for specific investment advice.
